Imagine if history’s greatest landscape painters had the opportunity to paint in Sleeping Bear country, “The Most Beautiful Place In America.” This is a class to not only learn the techniques of plein air painting but also to learn about the methods of history’s great landscape painters. Each class will start off with a brief illustrated presentation, beginning with The History Of Landscape Painting and covering artists such as Van Gogh, O’Keeffe, Hockney, and Diebenkorn. Following the presentations, students will seek to incorporate ideas learned into their own paintings. The instructor will give frequent demonstrations and provide close personal attention to each student.

Week 1 – Lecture: The History Of Landscape Painting In 28 ½ Minutes
- Demonstration of pallet setup, color mixing, composition, etc.

Hank Feeley is an author, painter, and sculptor whose work was awarded at the Dennos Museum’s 2022 NWMI exhibition. He graduated from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Harvard Business School. He has been a Visiting Artist at SAIC, an Artist in Residence at Oxbow, and taught at Roosevelt University and the Dennos Museum. Hank teaches at the Vero Beach Museum of Art, the Gifford Youth Achievement Center, and the Glen Arbor Arts Center. His work is held in public and private collections nationally and internationally. He is represented in Chicago by Aron Packer Projects and, in New York, by First Street Gallery.
