If you have ever thought about “painting” with paper, this class is for you. If you are a painter and want to try something different, this class is for you. If you think you are not an artist, this class is for you. If you simply love paper, this class is for you.
Using book pages, sheet music, maps, business envelopes, and other found paper ephemera, participants will create visually interesting compositions with simple collage techniques. This fast-paced workshop will explore the textural qualities and colors of found papers and hone skills in composition, cutting, layout, gluing, and finishing.

Amy Stevens is an arts educator and mixed-media artist with 30+ years of experience, working from her studio overlooking Sanford Lake in Benzie County. She has taught art and English, K-12 and adults, in both public and private school settings for 35 years, retiring in 2011 after 23 years of teaching literature and composition at Interlochen Arts Academy. She and her husband, John Huston, own and operate Glen Lake Artists Gallery in Glen Arbor. Amy holds a Bachelor of Philosophy and a Master of Education from Grand Valley State University.

Students will need to bring:
Two canvas panels 5×7 or 8×10 (These are primed canvas over a rigid board or cardboard. They are available online or in local craft stores.)
Gloss gel medium
1/4” and 1/2 inch flat paint brushes
Disposable gloves
