Artwork Details

This panel was created by Image 360 of Traverse City using a high-tech method of reproducing original artwork and printing it directly onto lightweight, aluminum panels. A specialized coating weatherproofs the panel — it has hung on the GAAC’s exterior wall for almost a year, and is as bright and true as the day they were delivered. The panel’s true and brilliant colors must be seen in-person to be fully appreciated. All 5 panels may be viewed at any time before the auction.

Image 360 installing a panel

NOTE: The panels’ reproduced images fare best and retain their vibrancy if hung on a wall that does not receive constant, direct sunlight.

The panel is hung using a French cleat system with the addition of double-sided tape to insure the panel stays in place. The mounting clips and tape are hidden on the back of the panels for a clean appearance. Once the lower, doubled-sided tape is released from the back bottom of the panel, two people can easily lift the panel, which weigh approximately 25 – 35 pounds. The panel is rigid and won’t wobble after it is removed from the wall.

The GAAC retains the wall-mounted fixture [metal strip] from which this panel is hung. The French cleat – which is permanently affixed to the back of the panel – is included in the sale. The winning bidder will need to provide the wall-mounted fixture that remains on the GAAC walls. For more details about the metal fixture, please contact IMAGE 360, (231) 933-7446.

Winning bidders are responsible for transporting their panel(s) from the GAAC to its new location. Panels fit well in the full-sized bed of a pick-up truck, but need to be strapped in for the ride. Past winning bidders have rented transit vans, and have also contacted panel-maker IMAGE 360 to arrange delivery services. Call IMAGE 360 for rates and a quote, (231) 933-7446.

About the Artist

Justin Shull is best known as a painter of landscapes. He writes: “My landscape paintings are a celebration of color and the outdoors. They are also meditations on how we shape, interact with, and are shaped in return by our environments: these are paintings as much about the world we make as they are about the world that makes us.”

This captures the essence of the images of Inside The Outside.

In March 2025, Justin and Sarah Bearup-Neal, GAAC gallery manager, sat down for a conversation about Inside The Outside. Justin talks about his exploration of the natural world, of finding ways to depict traces of human activity in and with it, and the tools – both manual and digital – he uses to bring his visions to life. Read that conversation below.
