Capture your furry friend in watercolor! Learn to paint pets with personality—whether realistic or vivid and wild—while receiving guidance for individual success. In this fun, beginner-friendly class, students will explore value, color, and expressive techniques to bring their pet portraits to life. Through step-by-step demonstrations, students will be guided in using tools and techniques while providing hands-on support as they create their own artwork. Learning happens through doing, so students will be painting from the start. Leave with new watercolor skills and a one-of-a-kind portrait that reflects each pet’s unique personality.

Robin Avery is an Élite Signature member of the Watercolor Art Society of Houston, Purple Sage member of The Texas Watercolor Society, and other groups. For 25 years, she’s been painting pets in watercolor. For the last five summers, she has been enjoying plein air painting in acrylic. As a professional educator, she taught school for 26 years! She absolutely loves seeing the excitement of her students when they experience growth and success!

Supply List
Recommended supplies:
- Watercolor paper: HOT- Press, Two—25″ X 11″ quarter sheets
- 6B pencil/ colored pencil ( not yellow)
- Container for water
- Plastic or metal paint palette with wells (you’ll want several circular or rectangular wells)
- Paper towel
- At least three ROUND watercolor brushes are recommended, size 2 (small) to size 10 (medium)
- Tubes of watercolor paint: For a full array of colors, a good place to start is by purchasing one 5ml tube of each: Winsor yellow, Chinese or titanium white, cadmium red, burnt sienna, and ultramarine blue
Instructor will have extra supplies to borrow and extra paper to purchase if you cannot locate hot-press paper.
Please also bring photos of the pets you want to paint. Black and white printed 8 ½” by 11” copies and photos on your phone.
