Description
Experience the excitement of traditional Japanese Raku pottery as practiced in the West today. In this half-day workshop, you’ll glaze, decorate, and fire pre-made pots using the dramatic Raku process—where red-hot pieces are removed from a special Raku kiln and placed into combustible materials, creating unique lustrous effects, crackled glazes or matte black coloring. We may even pause to write a haiku.
Held at the picturesque Thoreson Farm Studio, located within the stunning Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore, this workshop offers a truly memorable setting for creativity and camaraderie. It’s a fun, hands-on class to enjoy with a friend or as a group—everyone will leave with one or two of their own unique pieces.
NOTE: Any finished pieces are normally ready for pick up within 2–4 weeks.
Objective: Skill Development, Creativity Enhancement
Outcome: Improved Technique, Creation of Artwork
