Description

Weaver Lynn Bennett-Carpenter’s artist-residency with the Glen Arbor Arts Center is all about handwork. During her residency, she’ll set aside her camera and, instead, log the sights and sounds of Leelanau County she’ll gather for a new project through drawing and writing. Bennett-Carpenter will share examples of her residential work during a public presentation October 1, 10 am at the GAAC.

“The images I gather with my hands drawing, writing, and in my mind’s eye will be vividly translated into my handwoven drawings,” said Bennett-Carpenter, a Michigan resident. “The bulk of my time will be spent outdoors hiking and exploring deeply the Sleeping Bear Dunes. I will carry simple drawing supplies and a notebook. I will leave my camera behind only relying on my own actions and personal translations of the moments that capture my attention.”

The GAAC has been hosting visiting artmakers as part of its residency program since the 1990s. For more information about the GAAC’s AIR Program, go to GlenArborArt.org / ARTISTS.
