I have been a part time resident of Glen Arbor for over 50 years. Back then there wasn’t much of an art community. But then I met Susan Wilson, Barbara Siepker, Becky Thatcher and Amana Bricker who had the idea of starting The Glen Arbor Art Association to instill a sense of the arts into the community. As an artist, I understood how this would benefit the not only artists but the soul of the community at large. I responded to their call and have been an involved supporter ever since.
The Association, now the Glen Arbor Arts Center, has become a notable success and an invaluable asset to the community. This is because of so many like minded people who have unselfishly and enthusiastically volunteered their time and energy to the mission. These are wonderful, inspiring people.
I was taught at one of the best art schools in the world, The School Of The Art Institute Of Chicago, by some of the most influential artist/teachers of our time. When you have that knowledge you are obligated to pass it on to others. So I teach. And my great satisfaction is that my students learn and go on to become successful artists in their own right.
As part of it’s mission to instill a sense of art into the community the Arts Center maintains a solid program of art classes throughout the year. I am proud to be associated with such a program.
It would be hard to find a better art environment than Glen Arbor and the surrounding communities, the beauty of the place, the supportiveness of the people and the catalyst to it all, The Glen Arbor Arts Center.
