Description

Have you ever imagined creating a tiny world that exists only in your mind? This two-day workshop is your chance to transform a simple box into a detailed, three-dimensional Story Box (or diorama) that tells a unique tale. Students will explore the fun of mixed media, combining many different art techniques for a truly rich and dynamic result.

Assemblage: You’ll become a sculptor by transforming everyday “found objects” like buttons, bottle caps, twigs, and cardboard into miniature elements for your scene.

During this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn the following:

  • World Design: Planning and painting the interior of the box to set the scene and atmosphere.
  • Layered Collage: Using paper, images, and glue to create richly textured, dynamic backgrounds.
  • 3D Sculpture: Molding air-dry clay and assembling found objects to build tiny characters and props.
  • Storytelling: Naming your world and arranging elements to tell a coherent and imaginative story.

By the end of the workshop, students will have a deep understanding of combining two-& three-dimensional art forms and will be able to create complex, detailed scenes. Join us and experience the joy of turning something from your imagination into something magical! Students will leave with their own completed, mixed-media Story Box.
