Winter Songs & Carols: Manitou Winds

Manitou Winds celebrates the coming season with a concert of “Winter Songs & Carols.” An evening intertwining chamber music with song and spoken word, the annual concert is sponsored by the Glen Arbor Arts Center. It’s open to the public without charge.

The ancient Celts divided the year into a light half (May-September) and a dark half (November-April), seeing the dark half as the beginning. Inspired by this traditional view of the seasons, Manitou Winds created a program of music exploring winter as a beginning rather than an end. The eclectic program will contain both traditional music and original compositions performed on colorful combinations of instruments, reflecting a sense of optimism for what lies ahead in the New Year.

Founded in 2014, Manitou Winds is a versatile chamber ensemble comprised of five musicians who perform on many different instruments throughout their programs. In this December concert, Emily Curtin Culler, soprano, and Jan Ross, narrator, join the quintet. No reservations required.
