Watercolor for Beginners

Mary Gunzviller

This is a two-class introduction to watercolor. Techniques such as wet on wet, dry brush, splatter and many more will be demonstrated. The ratio of water to paint is the key to successful watercolor results. The more water, the more the paint spreads and the color lightens; more pigment makes the color darker. Mistakes are required. Wear old clothes. This is a fun, no pressure class. An experienced instructor, Mary will give individual instruction and encouragement to all. Students will work at their own level with frequent demonstrations. Bring humor.

Mary Guntzviller has been teaching since 1993. She has a BFA from Wayne State University and has been a professional painter since 1988. Locations of her workshops have been Ohio, St. John, Virgin Islands, as well as Mackinac Island and other settings in northern Michigan. Her artworks, including watercolors, oils, acrylic, and three-dimensional pieces, are displayed in private and public collections throughout the United States. At the Glen Arbor Paint-Out, on August 4, 2012, Mary won 1st place, and at the Traverse City Botanical Gardens Paint-Out September 14, 2013, she took 2nd place with the painting shown. www.guntzviller.com.
