Talk About Art: Bill Allen

Bill Allen Artwork

The Glen Arbor Arts Center’s “Talk About Art” series continues with host Norm Wheeler in conversation with sculptor Bill Allen. Allen is known throughout the region for his large-scale, welded steel sculpture celebrating a wide range of four-legged animals. In the early 2000s Allen began exploring other media and began creating mixed media paintings — sculptural compositions made from drift wood and other treasures he found washed up on local beaches. These works found their way into a 2010 collaborative project he undertook with Traverse City poet Fleda Brown whose poetry he used as the starting point for new works. Allen is a self taught visual artist who lives in Maple City. The Leelanau School is located at 1 Old Homestead Road in Glen Arbor.
