Sculpt the Bear
Sorry, this class has been canceled. Please call the GAAC office for more information: 231-334-6112.
Using the figure of a bear as a model, students will learn the history of sculpting from the Venus of Hohle Fels to Anish Kapoor. There will be hands-on instruction on how to select, stage, and pose an object, build an armature, measure proportion in three dimensions, and how to sculpt with additive materials (in this case, Super Sculpey). Students will also learn how to heat cure the sculpture and how to mix colors and paint the sculpture. The final half-day will be devoted to finishing touches and a group critique. Class will be held at Hank’s Glen Arbor Studio on Lake Street, between Bay Lavendar Trading Co. and LeBear Resort.
Hank Feeley is an author, painter, and sculptor whose second book Painting the Joy of Sleeping Bear Country will be published in 2016. He is a graduate of The School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Harvard Business School. He has been a Visiting Artist at SAIC, an Artist in Residence at Ox-Bow, and has taught at Roosevelt University and the Dennos Museum. His work is held in public and private collections nationally and internationally. He is represented in Chicago by Aron Packer Projects and in New York by First Street Gallery.
