Readers’ Theater Tryouts for Radio Days
The Glen Arbor Arts Center will be holding tryouts for its October Readers’ Theater production of an adaptation entitled Radio Days. The production is actually two playlets, with the first being a comedy and the second a mystery. A broadcast from July 21,1946 of the NBC program The Fabulous Dr. Tweedy deals with a bumbling college professor and a young child left by her father into his care. Another CBS program Inner Sanctum provides the second offering, which was called The Voice On The Wire, broadcast on November 29, 1944.
The date for the auditions is August 31, at 7:00 p.m. at the Glen Lake Community Reformed Church, 4902 W. MacFarlane Rd. (County 675 on the south side of Glen Lake near Burdicksville). Directing the play will be Ron Smith, a Glen Arbor local who previously directed three shows for GAAC Readers’ Theater, Casablanca, A Christmas Carol and Lost Horizon.
There are principal parts for three (3) males and three (3) females. The cast also calls for two young people, presumably female, one in particular being a major part. There is a need also for lesser male and female roles, four men, and two women. Technical help with sound and lighting is another opportunity for newbies to get their feet wet with Readers’ Theater. Dates for the performances will be October 14 and 15, also at the church location. Rehearsals will also take place at the Church at 7pm on September 7, 14, 21, 28 and October 3 and 5. Technical rehearsal is Wednesday, October 12 and Dress Rehearsal is October 13, both at 7pm.
Copies of the scripts can be obtained by emailing the director, Ron Smith at email@example.com.
