Panel discussion: “A History of Leelanau County Barns and Agriculture.” GAAC Gallery Manager Sarah Bearup-Neal leads this conversational exploration of the restoration, preservation, and community use of the former Leelanau County Poor Farm Barn; and how farming defined the historic Port Oneida community in Leelanau County. Panelists are: Stephen Stier, preservation builder, barnwright and Vice-President of Michigan Barn Preservation Network; Bill Herd, President of Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear, and retired Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore Park Ranger/Historic Interpreter; and Susan Pocklington, Director, Preserve Historic Sleeping Bear. Presented as part of the exhibition “agriCULTURE: Barnyards and Farmscapes.”
