Moving Metal: Fold Forming

Date: April 13
Time: 10 am – 3 pm
Registration Deadline: April 10
Location: GAAC

Fold Forming is an exciting technique of metalworking where metal is folded, annealed (softened with a torch), and unfolded, creating beautiful textured 3-dimensional forms. There will be demonstrations and hands-on work in copper using hammers, anvils, and our hands in this workshop. We will experiment with flameworking colors, annealing, texturizing, and learning to move metal. You will leave with several finished pieces.

Elara is a local artist who lives in Traverse City with her husband and two kids. She graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy as a Visual Arts major. With a strong passion for metals, she went on to study at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where she got her BFA. Now she is a studio jeweler who uses copper, silver, and enamel to create simple, nature-inspired jewelry. instagram.com/elaracoleman
