New! Linoleum Prints: Mixed Media Workshop
Sorry, this class has been canceled. Please call if you have any questions: 231-334-6112.
The workshop will show participants how to make a linoleum print and to use that print to create a mixed media piece. It will begin with cutting a linoleum block and then printing it. We will then use those prints in a mixed media piece. The design of mixed media piece will be as simple or as complex as each person wants. It can be a painted background or pieces of cut paper etc. We will make several prints so you can be as creative as you want and if your first design does not work you can use another print for a new and improved design.
Demonstration will cover: transfer of design to linoleum, cutting the print, printing, and using the print in a mixed media piece.
Participants will start with a small piece of linoleum to experiment with cutting and printing then draw out their design and transfer it to the block then begin cutting it. If there is time, do an artist proof.
Pull five prints and design the finished mixed media piece.
Finish the piece and talk about the work and the process.
Dennis O’Mara has a Master of Arts degree with emphasis on Sculpture and Print Making and he is an adjunct instructor at Kellogg Community College. He is a retired art instructor from Hastings High School, past president of Grand Valley Artist, and past Vice President of the Great Lakes Pastel Society. “’You are a sum of your life experiences,’ and my work reflects those experiences.” Dennis creates sculptures, prints, and pastels inspired by the places he has been and the people he has met. He creates prints in new ways using both wood and linoleum. The subjects are the people he knows and has seen in various places, using figures he has come across in various cities and placing them on a background of the newspapers from those cities. His work has been selected for a number of local and national shows. He has been a participant of Artprize since the beginning and his work is in a number of private collections.
