Lecture: “The Art of Painting: A Radical Perspective”
Glen Arbor painter Harvey Gordon talks about “The Art of Painting: A Radical Perspective.”
In this hour-long program, Gordon will explain his approach to the word radical. “It’s not something wild, wacky, and/or far out,” he said; but an attempt to examine the subject at its root. Gordon offers a personal, selective, and not necessarily linear view of the history of the art of painting — from the caves of Europe to the present; and he discusses the art itself and some external conditions that may have influenced it. The presentation “asserts a strong commitment to a traditional point of view,” Gordon said.
“The Art of Painting: A Radical Perspective” is free of charge. A graduate of Cranbrook Academy of Art and the University of North Carolina, Gordon retired as Art Professor and Chairperson of the Glen Oaks Community College Art Department in southwest Michigan in 2000. Ten solo exhibitions of Gordon’s paintings have been held in New York City galleries, and seven in Michigan galleries. A small exhibition of Gordon’s work is on display in the GAAC’s Hall Gallery until December 23.
