Introduction to Pastels

Mary Fuscaldo Autumn Light

Pastel, used for hundreds of years by the Old Masters, has had a wonderful revival with many new brands, papers, and techniques. Learn about the new pastels, underpainting, blending, framing, and the instant gratification of applying pure pigment to paper for vibrant, beautiful paintings. This class will concentrate on those new to pastel but with experience in other mediums; however, all levels of pastel experience are welcome. A supply list is available, but the instructor will provide supplies for an additional fee of $45 if the GAAC office is notified by September 1, 2014.

Mary Fuscaldo is an award-winning artist who lives in Leelanau County, Michigan. She is a graduate of Drake University with a BFA in Fine Art and has studied with numerous pastel experts. Her works have appeared on the covers of magazines, the Northern Michigan best selling book, ‘Look About You’ and are included in corporate, library, and numerous private collections. Locally, her work is available at Main Street Gallery in Leland. Mary was awarded the Silver Medal at the Great Lakes Pastel Society National Jury Exhibition in 2009, awarded 1st Prize at the Crystal Lake Art Center All Media Juried Art Competition in 2010 and had a painting juried into ‘The Art of the Sleeping Bear Dunes’. www.maryfuscaldo.com.
