Intro to Knitting

If you’ve never picked up needles before, this is the class for you. In this class, master knitter Melissa Kelenske will teach students to cast on, knit and bind off – -the basic foundation for starting a first project. Students will cast on and knit a simple but cozy cowl in the round. Much of knitting is muscle memory — practicing the same repetitive motions over and over; this cowl is a great way to hone your new knitting skills.
Students Bring:
1.) Approximately 200 yards of worsted weight yarn, preferably a wool blend (no cotton, acrylic).
2.) One 16-inch circular needle in US 7, 8 or 9
3.) One stitch marker
Instructor: Melissa Kelenske is a writer, mother, shop owner, coffee drinker, chocolate lover and Leelanau County native. She’s been knitting virtually nonstop for almost 20 years and her favorite projects range from socks to mittens to hats to shawls to sweaters. So actually, everything. www.woolandhoney.com
Class Cost: $40 GAAC members, $55 non-members.
