Gallery Talk: How Art Transforms Community: Three Approaches
Three Northern Michigan groups have pressed the arts into the service of creating better communities. A conversational discussion of the role of the arts and community building will take place.
GAAC Gallery Manger Sarah Bearup-Neal talks with representatives of Crosshatch Center for Art & Ecology; GRETA [Growing Responsibility for Earth Through Art], an activist artists’ collective; and the Empire Area Community Center. In each case, these groups use the visual and performing arts to raise awareness, transform community, and create an emergency safety net for local residents.
This program is offered in conjunction with the GAAC’s exhibition Power Tools [September 11 – November 5]. There is no charge to attend.
