Gallery Event: Fresh Water Poetry Throwdown
Due to the corona virus, this event has been postponed. Please check again in the future for a rescheduled date and time.
“Who owns the water?” People? Communities? Corporations? Nobody? That question is the basis for the Fresh Water Poetry Throwdown.
As part of its 2020 Student Exhibition, also entitled Who Owns The Water?, the GAAC is challenging high school students to come up with an original written response to this question; and to perform or read it at the GAAC Gallery before a live audience. Each writer may read up to five minutes. The Fresh Water Poetry Throwdown is open to students in grades 9 – 12 attending schools in Benzie, Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties. Poems may be the work of one author or a team of writers working in any genre: poetry or prose, free verse, traditional verse, haiku, rap, beat or other experimental forms. There is no charge, but poets must pre-register by Friday, April 3 for one of the 20 available slots. To pre-register, call the GAAC: 231/334-6112.
Who Owns The Water? opens April 7 and runs through May 1.
