Finding Courage: Painting for Deeper Self Expression

Sorry, this class has been cancelled.

Date and Time: November 3, 4 and 5; 10 am – 4 pm
Registration Deadline: October 30

In this three-day workshop, Jessica Kovan encourages and challenges participants to find their language in their paintings. Focus on discovering your sources of inspiration, communicating personal vision, learning new mixed-media techniques, and developing your unique artistic style. Learn a wide variety of painting, drawing, thinking, brainstorming, and mixed-media techniques to add depth to your creative practice.

Through demonstrations, candid conversation and individual time Jessica shares her painting style and the versatility of working with acrylics and mixed media. Explore how to expand creative possibilities through working with gesso, acrylics, collage, inks, photo transfer and mark-making tools. Gain the courage to create strong conceptual work that communicates personal vision/feelings/emotions/concepts.

Each day will include group instruction, personal attention, individual feedback and painting time. Come ready to choose your focus, experiment, work deeply, learn and share.

Jessica Kovan was a 2019 Artist-in-Residence at the GAAC. She is a signature member of the International Society of Experimental Artists and the International Society of Acrylic Painters. Her overall teaching philosophy is to help students enjoy the process of making art. As an adult educator, she believes art is an individual journey. Creativity should be personal, playful, and insightful. Her goal is to help students both experience the journey and find their way while remaining open to the learning process. jessicakovan.com

  • Class sizes will be limited to 12 persons or less for outdoor programs and 8 or less for indoor programs.
  • All students must wear face coverings inside the center when social distancing isn’t possible.
  • Students and staff will wash and sanitize hands frequently throughout the day.
