Exploring the Rich World of Gouache
This three-day workshop will give participants the opportunity to explore the versatile qualities of gouache. Gouache, pronounced “gwash,” is a chroma-rich, water-based medium that lends itself to a wide range of possibilities for painting on paper with easy clean up. Participants will investigate mixing colors from a limited palette, experiment with layers and paint both in the studio and outdoors (weather permitting). All levels of experience are welcome. Demonstrations, one-on-one instruction and critiques will be included.
Joan Richmond has used gouache in her landscape images over the past nine years. After teaching painting at Northwestern Michigan College, she continues to instruct drawing and painting workshops. A graduate of the Art Academy of Cincinnati, she holds a MFA from the University of Notre Dame. Richmond has received awards at four GAAC Plein Air Paint Outs, exhibits regionally and was a Visiting Artist at the American Academy in Rome the Springs of 2015 and 2016. JoanRichmondArt.com
