Enameled Jewelry

Date: June 25
Time: 10 am – 3 pm
Registration Deadline: June 22
Location: GAAC

Explore all the possibilities of enameling, which uses both a kiln and a torch to fire finely ground glass with pigments and minerals onto metal. This class covers preparing and cutting the base metal, sifting the enamel onto the surface, color composition, oil resist, firing, and finishing. We use copper as a base, but you are welcome to bring silver with which to work. Experiment with layering colors, using sgraffito (a carving method) and oil resist creating unique earrings or a necklace.

Elara is a local artist who lives in Traverse City with her husband and two kids. She graduated from the Interlochen Arts Academy as a Visual Arts major. With a strong passion for metals, she went on to study at the Cleveland Institute of Art, where she got her BFA. Now she is a studio jeweler who uses copper, silver, and enamel to create simple, nature-inspired jewelry. instagram.com/elaracoleman/
