Community Theater: “What Will Be in the Fields Tomorrow?”

“What Will Be In The Fields Tomorrow?” A community readers’ theater-style piece, “Fields” touches on a wide range of issues at the center of modern agriculture: food production, food quality, sustainable agriculture, and the lives of farmers today. The readers who will perform “Fields” will be local residents, farmers, and other people with professional, avocational, and recreational links to local agriculture and rural life. “Fields” was developed in 2006 as part of the Michigan State University Museum’s The Voices Project, with support from the Michigan Humanities Council. Project lead, Dr. Julie Avery, Michigan State University Curator Emerti of Rural Life and Culture, is consulting on “Fields,” and will be part of the directing team with Celeste Crouch, retired secondary school teacher and GAAC Glen Arbor Players director. Dr. Robert Sirrine, Extension Food Systems specialist with Leelanau County Cooperative Extension, will moderate the post-program, audience talk-back. Presented as part of the exhibition “agriCULTURE: Barnyards and Farmscapes.”
