Character Creation in Cartoons

This class will teach basic concepts of Character Design, Character Development, and Character Drawing for Animation. Students will learn how to approach character design and how to progress from concept to finished designs. Through the study of classical and modern drawing techniques, students will explore ways to make characters appealing, dynamic, interesting, and animatable with an emphasis on solid construction. No experience required.
Jim Feeley works as a Character Design Supervisor for Fox Television Animation in Los Angeles. He has designed characters for hit series such as Futurama & American Dad, and his film credits include Tim Burton’s 9, Disney Animation’s Valiant, and most recently Kahlil Gibran’s The Prophet. He currently lives in Traverse City, MI, with his wife, and three daughters.
