Capturing Light & Vibrancy in Watercolor

Date: Wednesday-Friday; August 23, 24, 25
Time: 10 am – 3 pm (with a break for lunch)
Registration Deadline: August 20

Discover exciting, step-by-step techniques for capturing the beauty of local scenery through the “light and vibrancy” of watercolor. Karin Harris’s approach to exploring the joy of watercolor in daily demonstrations and one-on-one instruction will inspire painters of all skill levels to discover their voice and unique experience in portraying the world around them.

Begin sketching the local scenic landscape every morning using Karin’s simple view-finding process of making art your own. Then, enjoy plenty of painting time in the Studio while benefiting from Karin’s demonstration of creative design and composition choices for your daily outdoor drawings.

Enjoy using a more limited palette to create enhanced luminosity in your paintings. Each student will discover the beauty and ease of mixing vibrant prismatic colors and glorious semi-neutrals using only a few select pigments.

Affirming and encouraging critiques will celebrate our paintings each day!

Karin received a BFA from Southern Oregon State University and freelance painted & instructed at Marylhurst College & Art Centers while participating in Invitational & Juried Shows throughout the Pacific NW. Now in Coachella Valley, I am pleased to be active in the Artists Council, Women Artists of the Desert, Desert Art Center, and Coachella Valley Watercolor Society.

COVID-RELATED UPDATES TO 2023 PROGRAMS AS OF 12/20/2022

To ensure the safety of our students and Staff, we have implemented new procedures for our 2022 programs to mitigate the spread of COVID and still allow participants to have a wonderful time creating art.

  • Class sizes will be limited to 12 persons for indoor programs and 16 outdoor programs
  • All students who have symptoms of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, should stay home and not attend class.
  • Students and Staff will wash and sanitize hands frequently throughout the day.
  • Staff will sanitize common areas and touch surfaces regularly.
  • We have optimized our indoor ventilation system to reduce the risk of germs and contaminants spreading through the air.
  • If Leelanau County COVID-related cases are designated high risk, students and visitors must wear a face mask to prevent transmission.

To keep pace with the evolving conditions related to the pandemic, Staff will inform the GAAC’s new policies or procedures before the start of the course.
