Beyond the Frozen Pines – Watercolor and Ink – Session 1

Date: Sunday, January 22 (week 1)
Time: 10 am-12 pm
Registration Deadline: January 19
Format: Online via Zoom

Don’t brave the cold this winter; stay inside and create art with this three-week course (take one or all three). We will learn about watercolor, ink, and sketching out a well-balanced composition. In week one (Jan. 22), we’ll head into the pine forest, capturing the density and quiet of winter wood. In week two (Jan. 29), we will look to the snowy dunes and frozen lake for inspiration. Finally, join us in week three (Feb. 5)for a chance to create a painting with some friendly chickadees.

The techniques we’ll gather along the way include:
• Color-mixing.
• Creating value with ink and layers.
• Allowing ourselves to explore texture.

This class is designed to help you get the most out of your art practice. As we walk among the frozen pines this January, you may find something new about yourself.

To ensure the safety of our students and Staff, we have implemented new procedures for our 2022 programs to mitigate the spread of COVID and still allow participants to have a wonderful time creating art.

  • Class sizes will be limited to 12 persons for indoor programs and 16 outdoor programs
  • All students who have symptoms of respiratory or gastrointestinal infections, such as cough, fever, sore throat, vomiting, or diarrhea, should stay home and not attend class.
  • Students and Staff will wash and sanitize hands frequently throughout the day.
  • Staff will sanitize common areas and touch surfaces regularly.
  • We have optimized our indoor ventilation system to reduce the risk of germs and contaminants spreading through the air.
  • If Leelanau County COVID-related cases are designated high risk, students and visitors must wear a face mask to prevent transmission.
