Artist-in-Residence – Photographer Paul Rose

Upper Peninsula resident Paul Rose comes downstate for a two-week winter residency with the Glen Arbor Arts Center (GAAC). Rose, a painter and photographer, begins his Artist-in-Residence (AIR) stay Jan. 12. He’ll talk about his work and experiences during the residency at a public presentation Thursday, January 23, 7:30 pm at the GAAC, 6031 S. Lake St., Glen Arbor.
Rose is the second photographer in as many years to request an AIR winter stay. While here, he’ll focus his digital camera on Glen Arbor and the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore – locations that typically attract artists during the warmer weather months rather than this cold, quiet season. Rose wants to document people, places and things that “speak of the area,” confining his shooting not to the daylight hours, but taking a 24-hour approach. Rose received a BFA in photography from the Center for Creative Studies in Detroit. He is a resident of Fayette, an historic ore mining community located between Escanaba and Manistique, on Lake Michigan. Paul Rose is the final AIR resident of the 2013 season.
