With this talk we will explore 3500 years of painters attempting to capture and preserve the beauty of the natural landscape.
We begin with the ancient Minoens and travel all the way to today’s Wayne Thiebaud with stops along the way to discuss the Romans, the Chinese, Jacob Van Ruisdael, JMW Turner, Monet’s cataracts, the slowness of Cezanne, the emotion of Van Gogh, Whistler’s trial, the Group Of Seven, Fairfield Porter’s shadows, Georgia OKeefe, Anselm Kiefer’s medium, the influence of outsider art and, finally, the meaning of it all.
